Forest Stewardship Tour:    

RFM Farms, Property of Bob and Frances McGranahan

Suwannee County, FL

The McGranahan’s primary management objectives for their Suwannee County property are timber production, grazing, and wildlife management.  Timber management, including pine straw production, is given high priority in their planted pine stands and management practices optimize yields of both.  Timber management practices return high yields of timber and straw. Grazing is currently confined to established pastures although integrating grazing with timber is under consideration. Wildlife management practices are primarily to improve habitat for game species such as white-tailed deer, wild turkey and bobwhite quail.  Recreational use of the property includes hunting and wildlife viewing and the habitat management they implement also improve those opportunities.  Join us for a tour of the property.  We'll do a little walking so wear appropriate footwear and dress accordingly.
